2 Ways To Spend Quality Time With Others
To help you #MakeTime for what matters, here are 12 ways you can spend quality time with the people you love! Bonus points if you put your phone away and focus on staying present while you’re with your people!
1. Go for a walking date.
We’ve all had coffee dates with our friends before, but have you tried going on a walking date? Whenever I go for a walk with my mom, sister, or a friend, I find we end up freely talking about whatever’s on our minds. There’s no pressure to keep your voice down like there is in a coffee shop, and you get the added bonus of some fresh air while connecting with others.
2. Take a weekend trip.
Nothing says bonding like an overnight trip with people you love. Whenever I’ve had a weekend away with my girlfriends, I’ve come back feeling like we’re closer. Maybe it’s to do with sharing close quarters or having random late-night conversations, but a weekend getaway is always good for the soul.
3. Host a game night.
A little friendly competition is a great way to bond with your friends and family. Whether you play card, board, or video games, so many inside jokes can happen when you play against each other. I also find game nights encourage you to be present in the moment without the distraction of a phone.
4. Go to the market.
Whether it’s a farmers’ market or a flea market, wandering around the market is a great way to spend time with your loved ones. You can walk around the booths and grab some tasty bites, all while catching up with whoever you decide to bring.
5. Make dinner together.
Food truly does bring people together, and the act of cooking with someone can be an adventure of its own. From finding the recipe to getting the ingredients to making the meal, the whole process allows you to create special memories together – with the added bonus of eating delicious food at the end.
6. Host a wine and cheese night.
A wine and cheese night is a great way to entice your friends and family to come over so you can spend some quality time together. After all, who is really going to turn down wine and cheese? You could even add some board games or karaoke to the agenda. Bonus points if you make everyone leave their phone at the door!
7. Go for a picnic.
Picnics are a great way to bring people together, even if it’s just you and your partner. If I could go on a picnic every weekend, I would (unfortunately the Seattle weather doesn’t allow that). There’s something so satisfying about packing a basket full of good food, rolling out a blanket on the grass, and enjoying the company of others.
8. Go wine/beer/cider/coffee tasting.
There are so many different types of tastings these days, which makes it super easy to find something your friends can do together. Whether it’s wine, coffee, or cider tasting, gathering with your friends to try something new is a great way to spend quality time with them.
9. Explore a new part of town.
If you’ve run out of coffee shops to meet at with your bestie, try exploring a new part of town together. Wandering around a new place without an agenda or relying on Yelp can make the whole day feel like a fun adventure. You might even find your new favorite coffee shop together.
10. Volunteer or attend a charity event.
There’s nothing better than giving back to your community while spending quality time with others. Scope out a local volunteering opportunity that you can do with a friend or family member, like building a community garden or helping at a food bank.
You can also see if any non-profits in your area are hosting auctions or galas. These events are super fun to attend with a group of friends, and the proceeds always go to a good cause.
11. Take a class together.
Whether you want to learn how to dance or make a floral arrangement, taking a class with a friend or partner is a great way to spend quality time together. You might be terrible at the class, but you’ll definitely end up with some great memories together.
12. Start a project together.
Working on a project is a great way to spend quality time together. Maybe that’s building a dresser with your hubby or starting a podcast with your bestie. By working towards a common goal, you can enjoy the process of creating something wonderful together.
